KSDS Included in the 2014 release of Decorate Fearlessly

Included in the 2014 release of Susanna Salk’s 7th title, Decorate Fearlessly, Kellie was honored with a two-page spread of an ethereal living room she designed.  Her work was included alongside top designers such as Mary McDonald and Jonathan Adler.

Organized by rooms, the book addresses key design principles such as color and pattern and mixing and accessorizing.  Salk gives encouraging design tips, as well as the designers, on how to make your space deeply personal, by following your heart.

Kellie’s feature is on page 78 and 79.

KSDS featured in "Best of Residential Architecture and Design"

According to the Interior Design magazine website, "Interior Design Books brings today's most forward-thinking projects in every segment to a new audience of design clients, designers and design fans alike."  Along with other national and international projects, the work of Dalton-based designer, Kellie Smith, has been featured in the recently published hardcover book by Sandow Media, entitled "The Best of Residential Architecture and Design".  The showcased project is for Smith's work in a 1930's Georgian Revival style home.

Smith was given the mission to incorporate contemporary touches while honoring the structure's original character.  The globe-trotting couple also wanted to incorporate pieces from their travels, found objects and family heirlooms - all various styles and from different periods.  Smith mixed the styles seamlessly, layering in color and warmth.  Conjoining decades of decor wasn't the project's only unification challenge;  Smith also reworked a disjointed layout, the result of multiple renovations done by previous owners.

This Dalton office features glass walls, a cool neutral palette with accents of bold, bright color, and artwork by local and regional artists. Unique touches such as an industrial modern staircase was crafted from steel and concrete, as well as a custom fabricated table that which features the Swiss flag.

Some of those featured include the Nike International headquarters located in Hong Kong, the headquarters of Elizabeth Arden in Connecticut, as well as the offices of Red Bull in Canada and Miller-Coors in Chicago.

The construction project was managed by Jerome Hollis, a Dalton-based contractor.  Artists whose work is featured throughout the space include Paul Fontana and Ashley Kinnamon, both of Dalton and James Thompson Lauritz of Cleveland.
